Englischer Libertärer sieht vorrevolutionäre Zustände im Land

Der Historiker Dr. Sean Gabb, ein wortgewaltiger und daher in seinem Land einigermaßen bekannter englischer Libertärer und Konservativer (aber ganz entschieden nicht Mitglied der Konservativen Partei) spürt derzeit in seinem Heimatland eine Atmosphäre ähnlich der Situationen in England in den 1630er Jahren (vor dem Cromwell'schen Umsturz), in Frankreich vor 1789 oder in Mitteleuropa vor 1848.

Nach 8 Jahren habe "New Labour" endgültig den in der Thatcher-Zeit angelegten Vorrat an wohlstandsfördernder Struktur aufgezehrt und das Land in einen militarisierten Polizeistaat der political correctness umgebaut. Die Blair-Regierung mache sich immer mehr Feinde, so Gabb, denn:

It has alienated the liberal middle classes and the conservative working classes. It has upset the most respectable and politically engaged ethnic minorities. It is alarming everyone who has been prudent enough to acquire a freehold or a little capital. It has stolen our pensions. It has given us a police force unwilling to protect our lives and properties, but eager to use lethal force against anyone who might seem inclined to look at them in a funny way. It has raised up a terrorist threat that did not exist before – nor would have existed without – our joining in a failed war of conquest with its attendant atrocities in the Middle East. ...

It has spent the past eight years destroying or co-opting nearly every institution of civil society that might once have provided means of resisting it. Whether we look to the media or the universities or the administration or most corporate business, we see a solid phalanx of placemen or collaborators in positions of control.

Und gegen diese Entwicklung gebe es keine organisierte Opposition. Die Strategie der Konservativen Partei, so Gabb, ist es, die Schale voller Labour-Abscheulichkeiten nicht auf dem Boden zu zerschmettern, sondern diese zu übernehmen, möglichst ohne etwas zu verschütten.

Bei der letzten Unterhauswahl im Mai 2005 hätten viele aus Mangel an Alternative noch einmal konservativ gewählt, doch diese Wähler wandern nun ab. Viele können sich aber weder mit den (euro-enthusiastischen) Liberaldemokraten noch mit den mehr oder weniger hoffnungslosen bis skurrilen Splitterparteien anfreunden. Somit entseht ein politisches Vakuum, das irgendwann (Gabb meint: bald) eine politische Erschütterung auslösen wird.

I am certainly not the kind of person able to lead such an overthrow. Instead, I am only observing what seems to me an obvious truth. Because the rulers of this country will not read the letters and e-mails of respectable complaint, they will be forced one day to listen to the roar from the streets.
